Art in the Pass 05.04.2021

With a heavy heart, I must announce that we are cancelling 2021 Art in the Pass. We are looking at dates in the Fall to hold the Festival, but have no information now. The Board decided we can not safely hold the Festival in April during the current COVID-19 climate. If we are able to reschedule we will let you know. Otherwise, we hope to see you at Art in the Pass 2022.

We truly regret to inform you that due to Coronavirus COVID-19 precautionary measures this year’s Art in the Pass scheduled for April 4-5, 2020, will not take place. In the interest of the public health and safety of the community and all of our festival participants, we are following the recommendations that have been issued by the Mississippi Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control to restrict gatherings of people in public. Thanks for your understanding.

What’s not to love about wearing the art???? Lorie Dorpinghaus is coming all the way from Canyon Lake, Texas, to share her Shibori silk wraps. Shibori is a centuries old Japanese technique of binding, folding, twisting or stitching fabric before dyeing to create unique patterns. Silk has an unmatched luminous quality and beautiful textures. It’s also washable. No two are ever alike, and Lorie signs and dates each one.

Deanna Goldsmith, from Perkinston, Mississippi, returns with her playful and exquisite pastel pencil drawings. Her work brings the viewer into a vintage world where nature comes to play. Each still life begins with an idea, old object, flora or fauna. From that Deanna builds her composition, playing with different perspectives. She uses soft pastel pencils, sticks, and pan pastel on sanded paper to complete her drawings.

Shopping for jewelry? Pass Christian’s own Kitty Tripp will be at the festival. (You may know her shop the Glitzy Gull.) She creates jewelry with a coastal theme using sheets of copper, resin, solder, ceramic and epoxy clays, linen, leather, cotton and recycled materials such as glass, wire and beads. She uses mostly her own drawings, photographs, carvings or molds to create unique and beautiful pieces of wearable art.
