Lucky passed away Tuesday. He was the constant companion of Ashlee Hughes and moved from Fernwood House to Saint Francisville, Louisiana in 2018. He was 13 and a half, or 95 years old in dog years. Lucky and I spent many Friday and Saturday nights together as bachelors. He preferred couches, bear and oriental rugs to beds though occasionally he would climb in a bed to be sociable. He considered cat food a delicacy, much to the displeasure of Pierre the cat who often saw his d...inner guest polishing off the last of his bowl. He harbored a lifelong hatred of tires: wheelbarrow tires, bike tires, car tires were all the same to him he would chase down and bite each one. His tire hatred caused him to be hit by a car in 2015, but despite an early prognosis of being paralyzed he made a full recovery. When he stood up in his cage after the accident everyone thought it was a miracle and when he could walk again, he went out and bit a tire. He would patrol the yard at night, often lecturing trespassing deer after midnight in his loudest bark. He was very fond of baby chicks, not to eat, but to watch he could gaze at baby chicks for hours, occasionally going up to the cage and trying to lick them. He would not allow Pierre even to look at the chicks surmising that as a cat he had nefarious plans. He will be missed by many. See more
