DMX was a brilliant artist and an inspiration to millions around the world. His message of triumph over struggle, his search for the light out of darkness, his pursuit of truth and grace brought us closer to our own humanity. I was interviewed today. I told the guy I never was too much of an ACTIVIST type artist. But the more I traveled and performed I realized the system pushes a ...different narrative for native people. So I felt as an indigenous artist it became a responsibility to at least share some truths that I knew, even though I wasn’t a historian or highly educated in those realms. Or have certain rights that come from our culture. Im not obligated to teach anything really, some things are better left within our own communities. I’m always learning and unlearning things everyday. If you carry any wisdom that has been handed down directly from your family, your clans, your tribes. You carry a legacy that is priceless. You are a blessing to the world! They say we’re not all feathers, drums and flutes. Sometimes we’re hip hop artists, or teachers in regular clothes. Sometimes we’re both.
