Shortly before midnight on Tuesday, June 1, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department received a call from a citizen who stated her car was shot while driving on Highway 471 near Coon Hunters Road. Deputies immediately responded and began searching the area. Shortly after the first call another citizen reported that their car had also been shot in the same area around the same time. Deputies continued to search area in an attempt to locate the shooter. Early this morning dep...uties located other bullet holes that seem to point to the direction of a nearby house. Deputies questioned the homeowner and were able to locate the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting incidents. Three juvenile males were detained in connection with the shooting. Two of the juveniles will be transported to the Rankin County Juvenile Detention Center where the will appear in front of Rankin County Youth Court Judge Tom Broome. The third will be charged as an adult and held at the Rankin County Adult Detention Center. *****UPDATE***** The train is now clear and HWY 18 and Marquette are now open *****ADVISORY*****... We currently have a train stalled in Brandon which is completely blocking HWY 18 at Greenfield Road (by the Pepsi plant). The same train is long enough to also be completely blocking Marquette Road near Boyce Thompson. Your dispatchers have been talking to Kansas City Rail Road personnel and have been advised that crews are working on getting the train moved. We have no control of nor have we been given an estimated time that the train will be moving again. Your day shift lieutenant is currently positioning officers at locations to best facilitate anticipated traffic issues. If you are trying to get to south Brandon, you will need to choose a route through downtown which connects to HWY 18 south east of the tracks. We will keep you advised as new information becomes available.
