Does connection-based parenting work? I hear this question a lot. It can't not work. ... You might not see any change. Change is happening! I promise. Connection can't not work.

There is nothing like the force of an immature child to test the maturity level in their adults. When facing challenging behaviour from kids, how do we preserve... our relationship even as we set limits, support boundaries, or steer through problems? The following three keys can be helpful to keep on mind when dealing with emotionally charged incidents. To download the infographic see - http://macnamara.ca/why-do-kids-do-that/ To read more see Chapter 10 in Rest, Play, Grow, or the Neufeld Institutes, Making Sense of Discipline Course

A powerful new video series and course created exclusively in partnership with Wholehearted.org https://www.wholehearted.org/healing-trauma-addiction-cour/ For... the first time Gabor Maté, MD has created a program specifically for families and individuals, focused on healing trauma and addiction. This unique series unfolds as a step-by-step how to workshop that represents the culmination of Dr. Maté’s decades of research and clinical experience. Each of the 8 episodes and lessons expand on the knowledge in his worldwide bestselling books on addiction, childhood trauma, and mental health. This program, filmed before a live audience, includes video lectures interwoven with audience interaction and on-stage demonstrations with participants. Dr. Maté thoughtfully demonstrates how to develop awareness, compassion, and tools for effective healing. Families and those struggling with addiction will learn how to heal longstanding tensions and better understand each other. You will gain new insight and understanding that bring hope, optimism, and practical strategies that support long-term recovery. Participants describe their experience as life-changing, profound, and optimistic. This program is offered in two versions. Both include the complete video series. The individual and family program includes a course specifically written for families and individuals focused on healing their trauma and addiction. The professional program includes a course and client exercises, facilitation guides, materials for clients, and a certificate for 12 hours of continuing education. The lifetime access option includes the video series and both courses. https://www.wholehearted.org/healing-trauma-addiction-cour/

New Series of infographics - Why Do Kids Do That? Young kids are allergic to separation which routinely shows up at bedtime. There are many reasons for this ...which makes it one of the toughest times of the day for a young child (and their parents!). Young kids can cling to us out of protest and alarm, refuse to sleep thus leading to bedtime battles and tears. There is a way through and it starts by making sense of why this time is so hard. From insight we lead into practice, working at the roots of the distress rather than just tackling behaviour at the surface level. There are so many ways we can help them settle into sleep and to hold onto us when apart. For more ways to bridge the nighttime separation see my other infographic - When Saying Goodnight is Hard You can download the new series here - http://macnamara.ca/why-do-kids-do-that/ #restplaygrow #drdeborahmacnamara #whydokidsdothat #neufeldinstitute #drgordonneufeld #whydokidsdothat #preschooler #bedtime #sleepkidssleep

Many of us tell ourselves I’m going to be different, I don’t want to make the same mistakes my parents did. But figuring out how to actually be different and raise children in a different way can be really hard. -Sarah Linfield Wilson lifeworks.ms/blog/2020/10/26/parenting-differently
