This is a major problem everywhere right now. It is so heartbreaking to see friends and family try to purchase a new home, only to be told over and over again t...hat they’ve been out-bid due to: 1. Waiving home inspections 2. Waiving appraisals 3. Cash offers in excess of $20k over asking price (and market value) 4. Quick closing This is not sustainable for the economy or the long-term culture of our towns. In Oxford specifically, there are so many new college graduates that would love to stay but they can’t due to the real estate market. Entry level salaries don’t qualify for $200k mortgages but with the median sale price of houses at $350k, they’re being forced to either relocate to less desirable areas or pay rent in excess of what a mortgage would cost them. We are allowing people who would contribute back to our city to be bullied out of town by corporations that will never even step foot here. That brings me to my next point and if you come for me, I’ll take you for a little walk down my street to prove what I’m about to say is 1000% true this is causing the quality of our neighborhoods to decline rapidly. Homeowners typically care for their homes in more detail than the average renter. Again, don’t come for me, I could prove my point in 2.5 seconds without saying a word to you if you wanted to come take a stroll with me. How is this being allowed to happen and when is someone going to do something about it?!
