CHAPLAIN’S CORNER. If you’d rather watch this content as a video, please click here: https://youtu.be/wgJ4BQ3aRmk We are spending the next several weeks thinking about relational conflicts and how to use them to actually strengthen our relationships instead of leaving a wake of destruction behind us - especially at work, but also in other areas of our lives. Handling conflict with a coworker well begins in the everyday, long before any kind of tension or friction arises. It s...tarts with something as simple as building bridges: conscious efforts we make to invest in the relationships we have with others. This will make the difference when conflicts do pop up. Consider a flimsy bridge made of popsicle sticks. This is what we start with when we begin a new job or when a new employee comes on board where we work. A bridge like this isn’t going to hold up very well when the inevitable Sherman tank of conflict starts to roll across it. The problem for most of us is that even after working together for some time, many relationships with our coworkers are still rickety and fragile. But if we took the time to invest in one another’s lives, we could add some steel girders and concrete pilings to our bridges and withstand that Sherman tank of conflict. This doesn’t necessarily mean being all up in each other’s business. Building these bridges can be as simple as consistently giving a friendly smile and a warm Good morning!, stopping to actually listen when you ask someone how they’re doing, or inviting them to share a little of their story with you over lunch. By investing in the lives of those around us, we can demonstrate that we value them more than any conflict that might come along later. If I can help, call me anytime at 877.322.CHAP (2427) x. 5116. Have a great week and be safe! Alex Biddles
